Redesign of Responsive Enterprise Web App

ROLE
Lead UX Designer

The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) has embarked on an exciting initiative to revamp its existing application, aiming to enhance user experience, streamline data access, and foster scientific collaboration.

The NCAR application serves as a comprehensive platform for researchers, scientists, and meteorologists to access and analyze critical atmospheric data, conduct simulations, and collaborate on cutting-edge research.

NCAR's goal was to enhance usability and enable users to efficiently search for specific datasets. This initiative involves implementing user interface improvements and incorporating advanced data visualization design.

By revitalizing the application, NCAR aims to empower researchers to explore atmospheric phenomena more effectively, ultimately advancing our understanding of complex weather patterns, climate change, and related scientific challenges.

User Research & Personas

Informed by extensive user research, I have developed detailed personas that capture the current goals, profiles, and pain points of researchers using the EOL platform. These personas serve as a crucial tool in guiding the alignment and prioritization of requirements, ensuring the application's redesign meets the needs and expectations of its users effectively.

Site Map & Task Flow

To facilitate the design decision-making process, I have created a series of task flows. These task flows help map out the screen sequences and the user's navigation path within the application, ensuring a smooth and successful task completion.

This approach allows us to identify potential obstacles and optimize the user experience at each step.

Design System & Style Guide

A comprehensive design system and style guide were developed to streamline and enhance the software development process. This system provides a cohesive set of design principles, reusable components, and standardized guidelines that ensure consistency and efficiency across all stages of development.

Prototype, Wireframe & UI Design

I conducted a comprehensive website audit to evaluate its usability, functionality, and overall user experience. This involved a detailed analysis of user flows, interface design, and interactive elements.

The primary objective was to identify specific issues and areas for improvement, such as navigation difficulties, design inconsistencies, and functional inefficiencies. By addressing these concerns, the goal was to enhance the overall user experience, making the website more intuitive and enjoyable to use, thereby boosting user satisfaction and engagement.
